Martin Luther Kings Famous Speech

On August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of the most influential speeches of all time. 250,000 people came together in Washington D.C. to support the pending civil rights legislation, and witness King’s soon to be famous address. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” is filled with incredibly powerful and thought provoking words. He stresses the urgency that his people stand up immediately for their rights because, “Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.”
His loud and demanding voice opens his speech by uttering the familiar words, “Five score years ago,” which immediately catches the audience’s attention.
