Martin Luther King, Jr.
1929-1968

Martin Luther King, Jr. led the new organization, The S.C.L.C. (Southern Christian Leader Conference) that pledged to use non-violent resistance in it’s protests. Non-violent resistance required that protesters never resort to violence, even when others attached them. M.L. King called it, “meeting the forces of hate, with the power of love.” M. L. King, Jr. started to embrace some of the Black Power movements ideals, such as the need for African Americans to gain economic power. King was upset that funding that should have gone for the War on poverty was being used for the war in Vietnam.
