Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. He faced racism at an early age. When he started school Martin attended a “colored school”. From then on, he was not allowed to play with his best friends who were white. His mother hugged him and said, “You are as good as anyone”.

He decided from then on he wanted things to be different. Martin never stopped thinking about how he could make the world a better place. He thought about being a doctor and helping people when they were sick, or a lawyer so he could help people when they were in trouble with the law. He finally decided to become a preacher like his father. Martin studied very hard in school. He loved books and hoped he could use powerful words to teach people to respect others. Martin studied so much so that he started college when he was only fifteen.
