Mark Rotter: Life Affecter
It was a blistering hot afternoon in late August. My football teammates and I had just finished a rigorous session of conditioning known as “the torture chamber”. We were soaked in sweat, gasping for air, and fighting to stay on our feat because the pain in our legs was unbearable. Coach Rotter calls us over for the final huddle to end practice. He critiques our play; giving advice on what we are doing well and on what we need to work on. Before we break and head to the showers Coach has one more thing to say. He looks at us all sincerely and says,” Not to sound fruity, but I love you all no matter how you play.” Laughter spreads through the huddle, because those words are not often said from men to other men, but so does a sense of comfort knowing the person with his stature cares that much about each one of us.
