fasfdasdfThere is still a sense of puzzlement and awe amongst historians in regards to the birth of the hippie counterculture in the San Francisco Bay area in the late 1960’s. In his 1984 book, The Haight-Ashbury: a History, Charles Perry presents a very thorough chronological account of the events in the northern California region that engendered America’s momentous social movement centered in the Haight-Ashbury. In an effort to discover exactly why and how the hippie counterculture originated, Perry chronicles the events that led up to the mass immigration of youth to San Francisco in the “Summer of Love” of 1967. The core of this massive influx of people migrated to the famous Haight-Ashbury district in San Francisco, where the hippie culture had its roots.
