Right off the bat I can name some negative aspects of the women going into the mills to work. The hours of working were outrageous. Never in my life would I work those hours. Some of the women would work as much as twelve to fourteen hours. A woman by the name of Lucy Larcom worked in the mill to make a contribution to help her family out. Working in the mills for that amount of hours must have been so exhausting on the women. These women that worked left their families and did not spend as much time with them like they would when they stayed home and did house work.
Some positive effects for the women to work in the mills were that they were able to support their families. In Lucy’s situation her father died so her family depended on her. This time in history finally gave women a chance to get out of the house and work in the real world. They felt important working in the mills.
