Man underestimates and will not admit defeat against the incredible, unknown power hidden in the beauty of nature.

The insignificance of man in contrast to the enormity of nature is revealed in John Foulcher’s poem “Loch Ard Gorge” and supported by the film “Perfect Storm”.

“Loch Ard Gorge” by Foulcher clearly depicts the force of nature over powering and controlling man. Foulcher uses the line describing the tides thrusting into “the dark interior of earth’ to explain the evil aspects of nature. It creates an image where nature crashes forward into an unknown, mysterious place. The indifferent use of tone by Foulcher describing the shipwreck is used to portray the cruelty and minute impact, if any at all, of man towards nature. Nature simply does not show mercy nor respect to those insignificant man lives it has destroyed. This is shown as man is described as ‘hammocks of bone and meat’. The frightful image produced is only a result of nature. Despite nature taking away their lives it still does not plan to set free those who’s souls have already left the flesh. ...
