1. The cell theory states that 1) all living organisms are composed of one or more cells; 2) the chemical reactions of a living organism, including its energy-releasing processes and its biosynthetic reactions, take place within cells; 3) cells arise from other cells; and 4) cells contain the hereditary information of the organisms of which they are a part, and this information is passed from parent cell to daughter cell. Because cells are the basic units of life, this theory plays an important role in biology. Cells make up every living thing, and without this information, human medicine and technology would not be nearly as advanced as it is today. The cell theory disproved many old theories, such as that of spontaneous generation. The information that was gathered from this theory made us realize that all organisms have something in common, and this paved the way for evolution and many of today’s modern day theories.
