Making a difference

I had been staring at him all night. The only reason he came up to me was probably because he had noticed. We started seeing each other on a regular basis and really got along well. I had no idea that he was a heroin addict at the time.
By the time I found out, we had been together for a couple of weeks, and my feelings for him were rather strong. Leaving him wasn’t an option at this point; I wanted to help.
Convincing him to go to rehab wasn’t easy, but I did it. First he had to go to the hospital and, of course, I went with him. Hours went by before he was seen, and he started to get sick from withdrawal. Keeping him there was getting more and more difficult as the time passed; his muscles ached, and his temper was getting to be short fused.
