Madman

Journalism is not an exact science. Unlike math or chemistry, there are no specific rules governing the way a journalist must do his/her job. There are, however, certain guidelines that most established, credible journalists seem to follow. They will start a piece with a tidbit of information or maybe just a hunch and follow-up on that until they have an acceptable story. Sometimes that hunch leads to a dead-end and sometimes it uncovers a tale that can change a country.
But journalism has its mavericks; writers that do not adhere to any preconceived notion of ‘following the pack’. These writers are considered outrageous in their style and their subject matter. They are the New Journalists or Gonzo Journalists. One man is synonymous with the term Gonzo journalism. His name is Hunter S. Thompson. Thompson eloquently describes this style to the uninitiated.
