‘Macbeth’ Act 1 scene 7

‘Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare is an exciting and dramatic play written for James, the king of Scotland. The play follows a relatively basic plot with only one main turning point, Act one, Scene seven. This scene takes place after the three witches have prophesised that Macbeth is to become ‘Thane of Glamis’, ‘Thane of Cawder’ and eventually King. Once Macbeth is announced both Thane of Glamis and of Cawder he then begins contemplating the murder of Duncan in order for him to become king. Act one, scene seven shows the arguments raised by Macbeth both for and against the killing of Duncan and the apparent change in Macbeth’s character at this point in the play. Shakespeare has applied many cunning techniques and strong themes that make this scene particularly significant and interesting.
