Macbeth

The play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare includes many themes that are not only relevant to audiences of the past but also relevant to audiences of today. The most relevant theme in the play is the effect of ambition on people. There are many examples of this theme presented in the play. Some of the other major themes that are presented in Macbeth are the conflict between good and evil, that appearances often hide reality so things aren’t always what they seem and Reversal of values “fair is foul and foul is fair”.

The most powerful theme that is portrayed throughout the play is the effect of ambition on people. Both Macbeth and Banquo are shown to be ambitious right from the beginning of the play, but their ambitions were very different towards the witch’s prophecies.
