Macbeth as a "tragic hero"

“Macbeth can be described as the ‘tragic’ hero and as a flawed character cannot be held responsible for his actions.”

Anyone who thinks that this statement is true is only fooling themselves. When we describe him as a ‘flawed’ character we are directly referring to his sense of ambition, and think of him as incoherent and imperfect (or flawed). He is, however, a tragic hero. A person who, because of his association with devilish characters, committed a grisly, evil and unnatural act of selfishness. However, although imperfect, one cannot deem him as flawed in the true sense of the word. For Macbeth had all control over his actions and thoughts. Throughout the whole play we see Macbeth transform from a hero to a tyrant, and have to consider what sparked this transformation in him or if the variations of character were there, in Macbeth, from the beginning.
