Sir William Golding’s Lord of the Flies presents us with the ongoing struggle between good and evil within ourselves. We, as Americans, live in a structured environment with laws and rules to help us make the right decisions. If there were no authority in our lives we might just go back to our caveman instincts such as survival of the fittest. I believe the young boy’s caveman lifestyle took over in The Lord of the Flies.
The story starts with the crashing of an airplane carrying a group of young boys of ages eight to approximately twelve who were in military school. The boys eventually floated to an island by way of a life raft. Once on the island the group, at first, used their training from military school to stay organized and under control.
