LORD OF THE FLIES

I had an opportunity to sit down with the author of this controversial novel, Lord of the Flies, Sir William Golding. We had a chance to discuss many topics, such as reasons for choosing characters in the book, the influences of certain psychological schools of thought on his work, and the handling of controversial issues surrounding the novel.

Me: Hello, Mr. Golding. How are you?

Golding: I’m fine, and you?

Me: I’m good, thank you. Now, let’s get started on this interview. I think this is one of the most asked questions relating to your novel, Lord of the Flies: why did you decide to make all of the characters in your book boys?

Golding: (chuckles) I knew this one was coming. Well, before I went to serve in the British Navy during World War 2, I was a teacher.
