Lord of the flies: Conflict between Jack and Ralph

A system of rule is only as effective as the most terrible individual governed by that system. Moral influences are used sometimes in society to help restrain our tendencies towards immorality. Moral ideas and beliefs are the only restraints holding the individual back from performing terrible deeds. This theme of moral is brought to light in William Golding’s novel, The Lord of the Flies. In his novel, there are several reasons for one to agree with his theme of flawed human nature. Character types, the beast and lack of self-control are all symbolic references to our own society; however, Golding uses these to personify the human defect found in society.

There are four main character types in this novel. There are the followers, the antagonists, intellects, and protagonists. The littleun, or the proletariat, is the follower in the book.
