Lord of the Flies Character Development

Chapter Two:
Character Development: In chapter two, I would say the most important character development is within Piggy’s character. For the first time in the book, he is used for something constructive and helpful. I am referring to the instance in which the group uses his glasses to help start a fire, in the earlier part of the book, Piggy is not looked at as anything useful, the opposite actually, but in Chapter 2, Piggy’s character develops into something that helps the stranded group. Another thought is Piggy is the one who made it possible to create the fire with his glasses. Since the signal fire itself comes to represent the boys’ grasp on the idea of civilization, and Piggy represent the intellectual aspects of civilization I thought maybe this foreshadowed that Piggy would play a bigger role in the help of the stranded group later in the novel.

Theme: I believe the main themes in this chapter are civilization and savagery. The boys are faced to look at there animal...
