“Yes, forget! Forget everything and face nothing! It’s a convenient philosophy if you’ve no ambition in life…”(21).

Tyrone says this quote near the beginning of the play. Jamie is talking about Mary’s situation and he thinks that the family should just forget the whole situation. Tyrone responds that it seems all that Jamie does anymore is try to forget. Since this is so early on in the book it is a good quote to show Jamie’s personality. He would much rather drink himself into a world of fantasy than face any type of reality.

“All right. Have it your way. I think it’s the wrong idea to let Mama go on kidding herself. It will only make the shock worse when she has to face it. Anyway, you can see she’s deliberately fooling herself with that summer cold talk. She knows better”(30).
