LIVE SOUND RECORDING

Our task for this assignment our task was to correctly mic up a drum kit, guitar, bass guitar and vocals and record a live band using the Yamaha o2r mixing desk and record to sound forge.

Before we could make the recording we had to set up the following equipment: -

DRUM KIT
The overheads-placed about 5m in the air above drum kit facing towards cymbals on either side of the drum kit. We used 2 capacitor mics with hyper cardioid pick up patterns so the mics pick up the cymbals with little background noise from the rest of the kit.
For the snare drum we used an sm57 mic with a cardioid pick up pattern because they help reduce unwanted spill from other instruments in live situations. It was placed 2inches away from the drum facing the top of the skin.
For the bass drum we used a D112 microphone again with a hyper cardioid pick up pattern so there was little or no background noise picked up. It was placed 4inches away from the front skin from behind.
