Little White Lie

Someone lied to you today and yesterday. Someone will lie to you tomorrow. Someone lies to you everyday. By definition, a lie is, as Ericsson gave,"a false statement or action especially made with the intent to deceive."(66) But as you may also know, there are exceptions to every rule. Some would say shoving is rude. If given the hypothetical situation where a blind man is in the middle of the road and there is oncoming traffic, and the only way to keep him from getting injured is to shove him out of the way then shoving is not rude. The same applies for lying. If you are keeping someone from getting hurt, then lying is not always a bad thing.
When Ericsson states, lying to someone is "an act of subtle arrogance for anyone to decide what is best for someone else," this statement is true to some extent. If you know the person you are lying to well the lie could be harmless and even helpful.(66) My best friend, Nikki, wanted me to go on a double date with her with her boyfriend, ...
