Linguistics and language

In chapter 4 of "language and mind" enlarged version 1972, Noam chomsky begins his essay based inthe text of a rather informal lecture given in January 1969 at G.A.College in Minnesota saying "when we study human language, we are aproaching what some might call the "human essence" the didstinctive qualities of mind that are, so far as we know, unique to man". chomsky believes that human language has a fundamental characteristic that makes it different from any kind of animal communication and that is the ability to create. He argues that even though animals have "a communication system" and "do share many of the properties of human gestural systems", human language is based on completely "diferent principles", for example we do not necessarily have to use our language to express real intentions or feelings, we can lie, play or just talk nonsense and we are using the language anyway.
