Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl paper
It may be hard to believe that an 18 year old girl from New York could have anything in common with a slave girl from the late 1800’s, but in fact we do have some similarities.
In the essay Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs comes in contact with people who belittle, and disrespect her, and make her feel like less of a person. You can compare us because I too have had similar experiences with people who have tried to control me, or demean me. One person by the name of Dr. Flint acts this way to Harriet. Dr. Flint is her master’s father and he forbids Harriet to marry her free-born lover, despite the fact that he too was black. “Well, I’ll soon convince you whether I am your master, or the nigger fellow you honor so highly.
