Legitimacy of the Patriot Act

In the wake of the attacks of 9/11 many Americans were changed and an entire country was united by one single event. Never before in American history had one single act of terrorism inflicted so much damage not only to American lives but also to the American spirit. Many were left wondering how the most powerful country in the world with all its resources, technology, money could have let this happen and how truly vulnerable were the American people to such acts. Within weeks of 9/11 a drastic measure to insure that events like this would never happen again was taken. The USA Patriot Act PL 107-56 (Uniting and Straightening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Obstruct Terrorist) was made law. Although the USA Patriot Act is intended to secure and protect the American people and the American way of life, the benefits may not be worth the cost.
