Sentencing of Bilal Skaf
On August 16, 2002, New South Wales Judge Michael Finnane sentenced a 20 year old to a 55 year jail term with a 40 year non parole period after being found guilty of leading a series of gang rapes in Sydney. He was convicted on 21 counts of aggravated rape, assault and kidnapping. The sexual assaults in which Bilal was alleged to have organised, took place on three separate occasions in August 2000.
Skaf was said to have summoned his mates by the use of mobile phones and was said to have a considerable degree of planning and coordination involved in each set of attacks. The victims were also said to have been treated with callous indifference and considerable cruelty.
