Labor’s Struggle

People were working for little wages and more hours. The wages and hours usually were about 12 cents and 12-hour days. They sometimes would work 6-7 workdays. The average workweek was 66 hours. Immigrants, made up of men, women and children, were most of the working population. They believed that if they worked hard then they would become rich. If they complained about wages or the long hours they worked, they either became unemployed or they were killed.
