KOHLBERG THEORY Kohlberg believed that people progressed in their moral reasoning through a series of stages. He believed that there were six identifiable stages, which could be more generally classified into three levels. The first level is called Pre-Conventional. Which holds the first two stages. The first stage is Obedience and Punishment. This stage is generally found at the elementary level (6 yrs. of age and younger). It’s said that morality is determined by the sheer power of outside authority (parents). At these ages, it is hard for a child to learn what’s right from wrong.
