Answer the following in a minimum of a two page essay. Your essay should be in proper MLA format with regard to headings, page numbers, and quoting; speaking of quoting -- you must quote from the Thoreau essay at least twice to support your argument. I have listed a number of questions as a way "in" to considering Thoreau's piece. You may use one, all, or a combination of a few to create your essay.

*Thoreau emphasizes that each individual must take action -- action that bears witness to moral principle. He says, "Let your life be a counter friction to stop the machine" (1222). What seems to be driving his own moral principle? What is the basis for his argument? Is his argument justified? Why/why not? Should he also [or instead] stress the importance of individuals joining forces, and working together as a morally committed group? If he were to do so, would his argument be any stronger? Be sure to consider and develop Thoreau's purpose as you write.
