King Lear Act 1

Shakespeare’s King Lear begins with an Act that can be viewed as riddled with deceit and melodramatic. Expectations created for the audience is done through Character’s persona; whether it be ugly, extreme, colorful, pure, and the issues that they as a whole create, a plot and subplot. Issues are those such of disfunctional families, how children treat their parents and human nature.

Nature, Justice, and power are all entwined together along with what has been mention to create a curiosity in the plots, whether the characters will maintain their personas, and how will these personas ultimately affect the conclusion to these issues.


All of this can be seen in Scene 2, Edmund’s soliloquy and his plan. Edmund’s character and his vicious intentions are shared with the audience, foreshadowing a sub plot of the story.
