At the ages of 16, identical twin brothers Benji and Joel attended their first rock concert. During that time, they were dealing with serious family issues, and basically getting by one day at a time. Nonetheless, life was stressful and became a burden to carry on with. The Beastie Boys' Ill Communication Tour provided them some relief for a night. Benji and Joel finally got the chance to take a break from their exhausting lives, and have fun, rocking out to their favorite band. A spark was ignited, and the start of a new band was on its way. The twins had a new appreciation for music and were inspired to create their own. With the help of a few friends, who would soon make up part of this band, Good Charlotte was born in Annapolis, Maryland, during the year of '96.
