Introduction


Recently I read James Joyce’s first and probably most widely read novel; since Joyce is one of the greatest geniuses in world literature and one I’m surely interested in, I decided to write a research project about it. I’m talking about the autobiographical book A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, with which the author reached the highest level of a new and unknown writing style: the use of inner monologues and non-chronological narrations. I’ve decided to talk about three main things: the research will cover a biography of Joyce in which I’ll highlight the influence his life and time period had on the book; a short summary of A Portrait; and, an analysis of these two plus some other things.
