Journeys

‘It is not the destination, but the journey itself, that is important to human experience.’ Discuss with reference to three texts from the stimulus booklet and two other resources of your own.

It is the journey that is the reward. It is through the inner journey of life that one grows and experiences life-changing circumstances, not by getting to the destination. The cartoon by Leunig, for instance, reveals that society is pointlessly rushing through life with the lack of knowledge that they are ultimately heading towards their death. The poems ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ and ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost deal with the impact decisions have on a person’s life while revealing the desire to achieve in life, but also to stop. ‘Journey to the Interior’, a poem by Margaret Atwood, illustrates the complexity of life and the obstacles that need to be worked through, as unpleasant events during life’s journey are also important to human experience.
