John Smith vs. William Bradford

When John Smith wrote his pamphlet, he had hoped to compel more people to settle in the American colonies. But when William Bradford came to America, he discovered that life wasn’t as easy as Smith had described it to be. In fact, many settlers died while trying to survive in the harsh New World. In the paragraphs that follow, you will find out what life was actually like, according to William Bradford’s account, in Colonial America and how John Smith’s description of life in the colonies differed from Bradford’s personal experiences.
