John Mayer

Heavier Things

John Mayer launched his first big album, Room for squares, in 2001 which sold over three million copies. His song, “Your Body is a Wonderland, from the Room for Squares debut album, won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal. Many critics thought a second album would not compare to the major success of his first. Mayer proves them wrong with the album Heavier Things, which offers a different genre of music as well as more mature lyrics. Where as in his first album it was mainly background information about his life; in this album we learn more about his thoughts and emotions. His songs are more thought provoking and go deeper than a normal superficial studio-written pop song. Even though, this album does not show off his excellent guitar skills, it does convey more of the subtle melodies strummed out on the electric guitar. I would say that this album exceeds the expectations of what the critics and audience were expecting from this fast-rising singer/song writer.
