John Jay

“He was remarkable for strong reasoning powers, comprehensive views, indefatigable application, and uncommon firmness of mind.” This was a quote stated by Lindley Murray, one of John Jay’s fellow classmates from college. Jay was an extremely influential figure in American history. He was the leader of the Sons of Liberty, Chief Justice to the state Supreme Court of New York, and earned numerous other important titles, such as president of the Continental Congress. Jay was a great leader and had a great impact on the way we live our lives today.
John Jay was born to Peter and Mary VanCourtlandt on December 12, 1745 in New York. He was the sixth child out of eight. Jay started attending the New Rochelle School at the age of eight and studied the Huguenot religion, calculus, Greek, and Latin while being privately tutored, at the request of his father, on the side.
