Background
The film “Jaws” was directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1975, with the original “Jaws” novel written by Peter Benchley. It was the most successful movie for many years, though it was never intended as a blockbuster, identifying Spielberg as a fantastic director.
The thrilling soundtrack was composed by John Williams. It is one of the most recognisable soundtracks of all time - the mysterious and sinister sounds of the cello and double bass suggest danger and force us to believe Jaws isn’t far away.
“Jaws” went vastly over budget, due to a technical fault with the mechanical shark. I believe this improved the film because the difficulties meant that the shark was only seen for a very short time in the whole film. I think more shark footage could have spoiled it, as it was blatantly obvious it was a fake shark.
