Believe It
Hard work, frugality, self-improvement, and self-reliance were the characteristics that the Puritans portrayed. Numerous rules were made because of their strong belief in God. These rules were forbidden to be broken; therefore, when they were, hell broke loose. In The Crucible, several of the Puritan beliefs are presented, and the outcome of the breaking of the rules is shown. Laws such as: forbidding the Puritans to enter the woods, attending church every Sunday and the belief against conjuring spirits unfold the events that follow.
Fooling around with spirits was one belief that could get a Puritan into some serious trouble. Their religion was their number one priority and going against that, was a severe sin. When Tituba is convicted of conjuring spirits, Reverend Hale and Parris threatened her so that she would confess. The belief of no communications with spirits killed many Puritans including Tituba.
