ISOLATION IS IT REALLY THE ANSWER

Most people think of poets as withdrawn figures that need isolation in order to create their romantic visions, Robert Creeley fit into this premeditated misconception well into the 1960’s. Creeley believes that “artists, be they poets or painters, were facets of the same process and should combine their efforts and visions” (Israel 1). Creeley’s writing pier to World War II was generally characterized by traditional rhymed and metered verse. He wanted to express the conditions of his experience, and felt that the old form could not accurately convey that reality.
As a child Robert Creeley grew up in relative isolation. The death of his father and the loss of sight in one eye all before the age of five left Creeley rather numb.
