A Paramedic’s Real Emergency
What is it about bright lights and loud sirens that makes everyone stop and turn around? Is it the rush, the excitement, the anticipation of maybe seeing yourself on the 10 o’clock news, or maybe the chance of seeing a lifeless body lying on the street. For bystanders, it may be the chance to see something that may be only seen on television. However, for all pre-hospital emergency care workers, everyday may seem like a movie. The media or shows, such as Emergency 911, fail to portray the real life events or feelings that some paramedics face on a daily basis. Everyday, emergency care workers set off to work in an unknown hostile environment; some scared of what they may see or encounter. Unfortunately, some traumas may hit home to certain paramedics such as in pediatric traumas. What if it is a child you see lying in the street, lifeless?
