Ireland

Ireland is a republic in northwestern Europe; it occupies most of the island of Ireland and has an estimated population at almost 4 million. Ireland, or Poblacht na H’Eirean which is the official name of the country, achieved independence from Great Britain in 1949. Northern Ireland is still linked with Britain and is seperate from the rest of Ireland.
Ireland is the second largest of the British Isles. It lies west of Great Britain and has an area of 27,137 square miles. Ireland’s only land border is with Northern Ireland; it is bounded in the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St. George’s Channel, which separates it from Great Britain. The highest elevation in Ireland is Carrantuohill. It rises 3,414 feet above sea level. The lowest point is sea level along the Irish coast.
