Intercultural Communication

Ja-lo and Ben, Michael Jackson, Botox, plastic surgery, McDonald’s, Burger King, and shopping ‘til you drop: What do all of these things have in common? As you may have already guessed, they are all part of our American Culture. We, in the United States of America, are a celebrity obsessed, youth driven, fast food culture, materialistic to the point of compulsion. This, we cannot deny but we are much more than this. We are also an entertainment culture whose movies, music and sports are enjoyed the whole world over.
Most importantly, though, we are a nation with great cultural diversity, rich in the history and traditions of the immigrants that built this land. This cultural diversity makes us different than any other country in the world. According to the US Department of State’s website, “The United States has welcomed more immigrants that any other country - more than 50 million in all - and still admits between 500,000 and 1 million persons a year.” This cultural divers...
