Inter-group Prejudice

Inter-group prejudice is an issue effecting many people and societies. Instead of people sticking together as one they are turning against their own people. There are many reasons some may be personal and others out of ignorance. Whatever it is it is separating people from their own kind. If you don’t belong to a group then where do you fit in, in life? It can be a confusing and even painful situation to many. The effects that can come out of this only seem to be bad.
An example of inter-group prejudice would be the conflict in the Mexican barrios between the pochos and chicanos. In the story Barrio, by Ernesto Galarza, Galarza said “The chicanos and the pochos had certain feelings about one another” (180). He explained how each group thought they were better than each other. The reason the chicanos do not like the pochos is because they feel the pochos are Americanized. The pochos do not like the chicanos because they feel they are superior to them.
