Influences of Puritan Ideology on French and Indian Interaction


The Puritan Migration was fueled by a belief that a Church of the elect cannot survive in a church of the damned. So as to not commit the sin of schism, Puritans believed America to be the perfect opportunity to set up a model community to stimulate reform in the Church of England. Since religion was the driving force for the migration and colonization of New England, it would therefore be fair to conclude that Puritan ideology influenced the interactions of the colonists towards the two other substantial populations of the time: the French and the Indians.
