India political analysis

The government of India is Democratic Republic with a Parliamentary system. It is a union of 28 states, and the polity is governed in terms of the Constitution. The legislature of India is Parliament, which consists of President and the two Houses, known as Council of States and House of the People.

The Union Executive consists of the President, the Vice-President and Council of Ministers. The President is the constitutional head of Executive of the Union. But real executive power vests in a Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as head. The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the House of the People.

When it comes to political parties, they are classified into either National Parties or State Parties. If a political party is recognized in four or more states, it is considered as a National Party. At present, there are five major National Parties, as well as thirteen State Parties or so.
