Land is the stage on which the play of life unrolls.

The context, within which I’d be expounding my thoughts upon, is sadly lacking in this particular commodity. Singapore is a country holding a population of about 4 million citizens and a total land area of approximately 680 sq km. High population density and thus limited land resources is a problematic situation that the island has on hand.
Therefore with this view in mind, it is important that she fully utilize what that is available, the 680 sq km worth of land, to provide adequately and proficiently for her citizens. Thus careful planning and prudent development of her precious commodity is essential.

It is my stand in this discussion that development control is a quintessential part of urban planning. For one to say that it would be a stumbling block in the creative use and development of the physical assets of the nation, is too hasty a judgment and in my opinion refutable.
