In my opinion the author, Truman Capote, is against the death penalty. In his writing he portrays a humane side of the murderers. For example, he talks about when Perry and Dick killed the Clutter family how they first made them comfortable. He also talks about how Perry would not let Dick rape Nancy. A murder is a crime that should be punishmened, but maybe the death penalty isn’t the best form of punishment. I am normally against the death penalty. However, in this case, after reading the book I believe that the right punishment was given. This is because I remember reading that if the murderers just got time in jail in Kansas they were probably going to get off on parole in fifteen years. If the punishment were life in prison without parole then I would be against the death penalty.
