In Between the Two Cities

Theme Statement: With resurrection great achievements will be accomplished.
“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done...” Charles Dickens’, A Tale of Two cities, implies the thought of reinventing the reader and making great sacrifices. The theme is portrayed mainly by two characters, Sydney Carton and Dr. Manette. The theme is shown throughout the novel. This theme is also intertwined with love and good against bad.
Dr. Manette in the beginning of the novel, was in solitary confinement for 18 long years. This caused him to go insane. For instance when he was released into Mr. Defarge’s care he started to believe he was a shoe cobbler and could not even remember his own name. But later when he is reunited with his daughter, Lucie Manette, is resurrected back to his old self.
Ironically, Jerry Cruncher implies the actual possibility of resurrection being in the business of “ grave robbing.” Later on i...
