Drama Essay-Task 3-Improvisation

Alicia and I’s self-devised improvisation didn’t have a title, we never really thought of one but if we did it would most likely be the result of the main issues and themes featured in our performance.

That production that influenced our work was “Cosi”.There were many themes in “Cosi” that all co-incited with eachother.This provided a variety that Alicia and I could work with to produce our improvisation.

“Cosi’s” main centralized themes revolve around mental disturbance, personal insecurity and the effect they imply upon relationships. Because the setting of "Cosi" is inside a mental institution you are encounter with different types of mental patients, their disturbances and how they behave towards to each other and the sane.

The style we chose to enforce in our production was naturalism/realism. Features of this were shown through situations or outcomes that are considered natural events in society and are concepts that actually happen in real life. Mental illness is an issue many people can relate to in today’s society. Also how other people are affected by one person’s mental instability, this perception plays a big role in “Cosi”.

The intention of “Cosi’s” playwright was to inform and educate the audience about certain forms of mental illnesses that everyday people can suffer from.
