Within the Japanese market the largest ISP (NTT DoCoMo) has introduced a wireless service called iMode. Statistics released at the end of 2000, illustrated that there were 16 million iMode subscribers, increasing by about 50,000 per day. Imode is currently only offered in Japan, however the originators have attempted to move across to Europe but are still in the process of negotiating deals with specific companies.
At the moment with Imode being available only in Japan the content is only in Japanese language. The architecture of Imode includes compacted forms of HTML (cHTML) which allow unmodified Internet sites to be presented on mobile phones.
