Images in poetry

“Lady of Shallot” is a poem written by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It is the story of the tragedy of a woman who is lead to her death by her foolishness. It is about how lust at first sight can lead to tragedy. At the beginning it has a warm and happy atmosphere which then changes into a cold, sad mood.

The images we see in the poem are the knight, the island of shallot, Camelot and the road that leads to Camelot. We also see the lady of Shallot weaving although we don’t get any information about her physical appearance.

The poet uses a combination of techniques such as fast rhyme like in the scene where she looks down to Camelot. Alliteration, the word “she” is repeated over and over in the last paragraph of part three to quicken the pa...
