Illiteracy

I have been deprived all of my life. I never got the chance to learn how to read or write. My parents never learned; they never went to school. They had to go to work at a young age to help support their families. When I was born, my parents raised me the best way they knew how. I turned out as an all around good person, but they could never teach me or help me learn. They never were able to read me a bedtime story from a book. It was always a made up story off the top of their heads. I did go to school, but I was always afraid to ask for help on everything. I was afraid my teacher would find out that my parents were illiterate. I did learn the alphabet, a few small words and how to count; yet I never progressed from a second grade literacy level. My husband has a sixth grade literacy level. He helps a lot, but it is still difficult for us to raise a family.
